SHOUTcast Users,
We've implemented a new major update to SHOUTcast.com that will allow you to listen to any of the thousands of radio stations in the SHOUTcast directory through a mini pop up player.

However, you can choose to continue to listen to SHOUTcast stations through your preferred media player, such as WinAmp, iTunes or Windows Media Player.

To Try Out Our New Pop Up Mini-Player

Simply click on the "Tune In" link next to any station in the SHOUTcast directory.
From there, the pop up player will show up with play, stop, volume controls. Underneath the player are tabs for Now Playing info with Artist Information (where applicable), a list of related stations and also a tab titled "Recently Played Stations" which shows which stations were recently played.

*NOTE: The miniplayer requires the latest version of Adobe Flash. Also, the miniplayer only supports stations that stream in MP3.
To listen to stations streaming in other formats you need to have a media player installed in your machine.

To Keep Listening Using Your Favorite Media Player

Option #1) In the Mini-Player, click on the big button that says "Listen to Winamp or Other Player"

Option #2) At the top of the main SHOUTcast page, there is a link titled "Configure Default Player" (see below)

Using either option, you will be directed to the settings window (below). Here, you can choose to use the SHOUTcast Radio Mini Player or switch to using your regular Default Media Player (such as Winamp, Windows Media or iTunes). You only have to do this once.

As always we welcome your feedback. Please post your comments below or send us an email through the feedback form.

If you already have at least one of the keywords above in your server configurations for the Genre no action is required from you at this time.

If your station's genre does not match at least one of the keywords above, you will have to make the change manually in your server's configurations to at least one of the keywords above. Pick two or three keywords from the list that best describes the music that you play on your station. You can change the Genre of your station by changing the 'Genre' parameter in the SHOUTcast DNAS configurations or the DSP.

Please note that starting MIDNIGHT THURSDAY, MARCH 05 those stations that have not changed their genre configurations to at least one of the above keywords will have their stations automatically mapped to fall within the list. Therefore, if you want to make sure listeners can find your station please take the time to ensure your genre strings accurately match at least one of the keywords in the list above.

Thanks!

-Faisal.

We've made some minor design updates to SHOUTcast.com last night. They include:

1. The links to the SHOUTcast Toolbar, SHOUTcast Widget and Winamp have been added to the "Extras" menu at the top.

2. Clicking on the arrow tab from the center will expand the SHOUTcast directory to the left, allowing you to read more of the text that features the station names, what's playing, etc...

3. You can now click on the Genre links in the center directory to view other stations of similar categories.

SHOUTcast Users,

You might have noticed that the search functionality was down on the Classic SHOUTcast website over the weekend. This was due to a back-end Database error that has since been fixed. The classic site is now up again and functioning normally.

Thanks to all those that wrote in to alert us about the issue. Note that we do read each and every feedback report that is sent to us so please let us know if you still see any issues or have any other feedback regarding the SHOUTcast Radio service. You can send us your feedback by clicking on the 'Send Feedback' link at the top-right of the SHOUTcast.com website.

Stay tuned for more updates.

SHOUTcast Visitors,

This morning, we installed some updates to the SHOUTcast site as part of our continuing efforts to improve the new SHOUTcast experience. Some of these updates were LOUDLY requested by the SHOUTcast community, which include:

1) Expanded view of station results

You can now expand & collapse the "Top Stations by Genre" module on the SHOUTcast.com site to view more information about the station in the station listing directory.
[Check out the "<<" arrow next to "Top Stations by Genre" module & a thin strip running in-between "Top Stations by Genre" & "Station Listing"]

2) More station results per page

You can now configure your directory search to include 10 or 20 search results per page on SHOUTcast.com and SHOUTcast in Winamp
[Check out the "Stations per page" link in the footer of station listing section]

3) Share & bookmark SHOUTcast.com & search results

You can now share or bookmark SHOUTcast or the search results for a query on popular social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Delicious, Digg, Stumbleupon and Reddit.
